皇帝のおられる宮城にも戦火の煙と塵が巻き上がり、皇帝の一行は長安を捨てて西南の蜀の地へとおちのびていった。
N君：平家物語ではないが、驕れる者は久しからず、ひとえに風の前の塵に同じ、ですね。紙屑ポイ捨てなら throw だが、「国を棄てる」は abandon でいいと思う。

S先生：九重は宮城の意。日本でも百人一首No.61伊勢大輔の歌に「いにしへの奈良の都の八重桜 今日九重ににほひぬるかな」と詠われています。旧都から届けられた桜の花を新都の女官が受け取る歌ですね。さてN君の作文もかなり上達してきました。
