長恨歌 その28： 君臣相顧尽霑衣 東望都門信馬帰
君臣あいかえりみてことごとく衣をうるほし、東のかた都門を望み馬にまかせて帰る。
君臣ともに振り返りつつ皆涙で袖を濡らし、しょんぼりと、東方にある長安の城門を目指して、馬の歩みにまかせて帰っていった。
N君：君臣の君はよいとして臣のほうはどう言うのかなあ。subordinate とか？
Looking back at the place frequently and disappointedly, the Emperor and subordinates, with their sleeves being wet by tears, were just passively rocking on the back of the horses which were heading east to the gate of Choan.
S先生：subordinate は単なる部下の意なので、ここでは「臣民」みたいな意を強調するために subject のほうが良いかもしれません。まあそれはよいとして、with 以下の付 帯状況のなかで being は要りません。being をここに置きたい気持ちはわかるけれどもくどいので wet だけでよいです。全体的にはまずまずです。
Looking back at the place frequently, The Emperor and His subjects wetted their clothes with tears. Looking toward the gate of the Capital, Choan, in the east, they moved for it, with the horses trotting.
N君：Looking と Looking で揃えるあたりがしゃれてるなあ。cloth(布切れ)の複数がcloths なのに対して clothes は衣服、でした。発音にも注意、でした。
