長恨歌 その29： 帰来池苑皆依旧 太液芙蓉未央柳
帰り来たればみな旧に依る。太液の芙蓉、未央の柳。
都へ帰ってみると、宮中の池も庭園も昔のままであった。太液池には蓮の花が咲き、未央宮の柳も緑の枝を垂れている。

S先生：第1文に they が3つ出てきており、はじめの2つは君臣、最後の1つは池庭ですね。同じ they を使うことに躊躇があったでしょうが、ここではこれで良い。意味が明らかですからね。第2文では willow's leaves がいけません。これまであまり言ってきませんでしたが、一般的に無生物の所有格というのは避けたほうが無難です。限定的に許される場合が2通りありまして、(1) 慣用句や成句で、for safety's sake, for goodness' sake(後生だから), the mind's eye, life's journey など。(2) 時間や度量を示す名詞で、today's paper, a month's vacation, a pound's weight, by a hair's breadth(かろうじて), to a hair's breadth(寸分たがいなく), a dollar's worth of coffee など。それと第2文の green ですが、副詞的に使われていると見るよりも一種の補語としてとらえておきましょう。この部分は全体として「人の世は変転するが自然はあっけらかんとして変わらない」と言っているようで、日本の百人一首No.35紀貫之「人はいさ 心も知らず ふるさとは 花ぞ昔の 香ににほひける」に通じるところがあると思いました。

N君：be in bloom は決まり文句ですね。昔、ぶるーむという名前の料理屋さんがあったのを思い出します。縁起の良い名でした。今回 remain as it was が新たなフレーズとして僕の意識に登りました。英作文の対象として百人一首が射程に入ってきました。
