長恨歌 その14： 驪宮高処入青雲 仙楽風瓢処処聞
驪宮高きところ青雲に入り、仙楽風にひるがえりて処処に聞こゆ。
驪山(りざん)の離宮は高くそびえて青雲にとどかんばかりだ。そこで奏でられる仙界の音楽のような妙なるしらべが、ここかしこに聞こえてくる。
N君：「とどかんばかり」というのは漢文で言うと「将に～せんとす」みたいな感じだが、これを英語でどう表現するかが今回のミソと思います。
The Imperial villa on the top of Mt.Ri soars nearly above the clouds. In the villa, here and there we can hear an exquisite melody as if it were carried on the wind from a paradice.
S先生： soars nearly above the clouds はなかなか良いです。簡潔にきっちり伝えようという基本的姿勢が大切です。第2文ですが、人を主語にするよりも、music を主語にした方が、メロディーがどこまでも広がっていく感じがすると思いますよ。
The Imperial Villa is situated high on Mt.Rih against a blue sky. A sweet unworldly music can be heard here and there carried by the wind.
N君：最後の carried by the wind は分詞構文みたいなものなのでしょうね。キラキラ形容詞は、beautiful,pretty,splendid に続いて今回 exquisite が出ました。
