この時、風の具合が良いので、船頭はたいそう元気が出て、船に帆を挙げなどして喜ぶ。その音を聞いて子供やお婆さん方も、早く早くとそればかり思うからであろうか、非常に喜ぶ。
N君：副詞「いつしか」は「早く早くとせかす感じ」です。更級日記に出て来た「いつしか梅咲かなむ」を「早く咲いて欲しいなあ」と訳したことを思い出します。
Then, encouraged by a favorable wind, he raised the sail in delight. Children and elder women were also pleased to hear the sail being put up probably because they had been obsessed by the eagerness of setting out early.
S先生：第2文の because 節の中身がどうでしょうか。N君は「早く出発したいという思いに駆られて」と作文していますね。そういうふうに書くならここは because they were eager to start as early as possible. とするほうが簡潔明瞭でしょう。私は「一日も早く都へ帰りたいという思いで」というふうに書いてみました。
Satisfied with a favorable wind, the boatman hoisted the sail. Hearing it being raised, both children and old women were very delighted, for they had hoped that they would go back to the capital as early as possible.
