古文研究法140-1 銀河序(松尾芭蕉)より：日すでに海に沈んで月ほの暗く銀河半天にかかりて星キラキラと冴えたるに、沖のかたより浪の音しばしば運びて魂けづるが如く腸(はらわた)ちぎれてそぞろに悲しび来たれば草の枕も定まらず、墨の袂(たもと)なにゆゑとはなくてしぼるばかりになむはべる。
陽はもう海に沈んで月は仄暗く天の川は中空に横たわって星がキラキラと冷たく光っている。沖の方から浪音が何度も何度も押し寄せてきて、魂を削られるように腸もちぎれるほどでどこからともなく悲しみが迫ってくるので、旅寝もよく眠られず衣の袖は何故ということなしに絞るほど濡れたのです。
N君：平安時代に比べれば江戸時代の文章はかなり理解できます。「運ぶ」は現代語では他動詞ですがここでは自動詞として使われていて「押し寄せる」の意味です。「草の枕」は「旅先で泊まること」を指します。「墨の袂」は「僧衣の袖」で、芭蕉は坊さんが着るような半僧半俗の姿で旅をしました。
The sun has set below the horizon and the moon is lighting faintly. Filled with a number of twinkling stars, the Milky Way lies in the midair of a winter evening. The repeatedly beating sound of waves arouses my grieves so greatly that I am travel-worn and cannot sleep sound with the sleeves of my nightwear dampened by tears. It seemes that the anguish from unknown origin makes my soul upset and my intestines torn to pieces.
S先生：上手に書けていると思います。最近はN君も腕を上げて既に私を越えていきそうになりました。本シリーズも終わりが近いと思いますが、生徒が力を付けて私を越えていくのを見るのは、教員としてこの上ない喜びでもあります。私ももう年で、最近は心の柔軟性がなくなり creative な作業が辛くなってきて、N君の作文に乗っかるような感じで作文しておりお恥ずかしい限りです。でももう少しですから最後まで務めたいと思います。
The sun has set below the horizon far off the shore. The moon is shining dimly. With the Milky Way lying silently in the middle of the sky, the stars are shining coldly. Hearing waves washing against the shore again and again, I feel as if my soul were upset and my bowels (were) torn to pieces. Though I am sleepy, I can't go to sleep. I am surprised to find the sleeves of my vestment drenched with tears.
