竜田川には紅葉がいっぱい散って流れている。それを無理に渡ると、錦のような美しい錦の帯が途切れてしまうかもしれないので、渡りかねるなあ。
N君：この歌はさすがの僕でも分かりました。
A number of maple leaves are flowing down on the surface of the Tatsuta River. If I am rude to walk across it, I will come to cut their beautiful line like an obi woven with brocade. Imaging the unrefined scene, I cannot do so.
S先生：第2文 walk across it がいけません。V＋前置詞＋名詞 の語順でよいのですがここが代名詞の場合は V＋代名詞＋前置詞 となります。したがってここは walk it across が良いでしょう。第3文の unrefined「洗練されていない、粗野な」はちょっと違うと思うので spoiled「かき乱された」くらいに変えてみてはどうでしょうか。
The River Tatsuta is flowing with red leaves scattered on it. Crossing it unnecessarily, I am afraid I might cut off the beautiful belt of the fallen autumn leaves. Thinking so, I am reluctant to wade it across.
N君：walk と wade の違いについて教えて下さい。
S先生：walk の場合は「スイスイ歩いていく」という感じがありますが、wade は「ぬかるみ・川・雪上などを少し苦労しながら歩いて進む」といった感じがあります。
