Although his expression was childlike, all servants in the Minister's house were amazed at his ominous beauty.

S先生:Though the bridegroom was still boysh, all the family thought that he was so charming as to bring them bad luck.

so+形容詞+as to do は 形容詞+enough+to do とだいたい同じ意味です。

Where does he live, in Korea or in North Korea ?  How I wish I would like to see him again and thank him for his kindness !  I missed my family, especially my mother and my sisters !  I secretly sobbed every evening, looking up at the southeastern sky under which my family lived.  I wish I could fly back to Hiroshima like a bird !

It was very fine and scorching hot on the morning of that doomsday.  Even during the summer vacation, we had to attend school every day except Sunday, not to take lessons but to help the farming of the families whose breadwinners had gone to the front.  We were to assemble at 8:30.  We had still some more free time before going to work, so we, Shoichi and I, were playing climbing wall bars, when all of a sudden (at 8:15, as we know it) ran a blinding flash equal to millions of magnesium flames from the southeastern direction.

We wondered what in the world had happened, looking up at the sky, but there was nothing but a blue sky.  Then in a minute or so came a ground-shaking deafening sound.  Thinking that a bomb was dropped nearby, we all lay flat on the ground to protect ourselves from a blast, covering our eyes and ears with fingers as we had been told to.  We kept doing so for a while, but nothing unusual.  So we stood up timidly and looked around and around, still nothing unusual.  The sun is shining glaringly.  The wind is blowing lightly.  Cicadas are chirping noisily.  We wondered again what on earth had occurred.  In an hour or so the sky was covered with weird, uncanny clouds, red, black, purple,yellow,gray........  Before long it got as pitch-dark as midnight.

We didn't have the slightest idea that a tragic thing was taking place in Hiroshima just at that moment.  An unearthly sky made us shudder with fear.  It was not until the next day that we knew by hearsay that Hiroshima was completely destroyed by a new-type bomb.  Ah, all the members of my family are gone !   I've become a lonely boy !  How shall I live from now on ?  I felt as though I had been thrust down into the depth of despair.
