桐壺82：このごろ明け暮れ御覧ずる長恨歌の御絵、亭子院のかかせ給ひて伊勢貫之によませ給へるやまと言の葉をも、もろこしのうたをも、ただそのすぢをぞまくらごとにせさせ給ふ。
このごろ明け暮れに御覧になる長恨歌の絵巻物があって、その絵は宇多天皇のご宸筆、また絵に合わせて伊勢や紀貫之に詠ませた和歌、それから漢詩なども書かれているのだが、帝はそのいずれを御覧になっても、ただ玄宗と楊貴妃の悲恋のことばかりを口癖のように仰せになる、そんな日々が続いている。
N君：宇多帝は800年代終盤に菅原道真を登用した天皇で「亭子(ていじ)の帝」と呼ばれており、その名が大和物語146段に見えます。摂津国にあった彼の離宮「鳥飼(とりかひ)の院」で管弦の宴を開いた時に、遊び女(あそびめ)のひとりが「と、り、か、ひ」を詠み込んだ「物の名の歌 : あさみどり甲斐ある春にあひぬれば 霞ならねど立ちのぼりけり」と詠んで、喜んだ帝が彼女に褒美をとらせた、という話です。
