桐壺106：あしたに起きさせ給ふとても、明くるとも知らで、と、おぼしいずるにも、なほ、あさまつりごとは、おこたらせ給ひぬべかめり。
明日は早朝に起きなければと思うにつけても「ああ長恨歌には玄宗が楊貴妃と夜の明けるのも知らずに共寝したとあったが、桐壺更衣が存命の頃は二人で朝まで袖を交わして 眠ったことだった」などと思い出されてならない。こんなことだから、今では玄宗のように朝の御政務を怠られるというようなことがあるように見える。

S先生：第1文の in the morning は in を除外して the next morning にしましょう。これで立派な副詞句です。また主語の the idea はやめて単に it にしましょう。形式主語にすることでグッと簡明になります。just as に続く節のなかで、はじめに in "The Song of Everlasting Song" を持ってきたのは良いとして、その後の並列文の後半の and had been を除外してカンマを打ち、分詞構文的にするのが簡潔で良い感触だと思います。つまり the Chinese Emperor Genso had slept together with Princess Yang, oblivious to the daybreak. とするのです。be oblivious to ～「～に気付かず、～を忘れて」。この軽さが分詞構文の良い所です。第2文ですが、これでも間違いではないがなんとなくパッとしない。副詞の now があるからといって現在形にしなければならぬということはありません。seems to be lazy about のところを came to be negligent in くらいに変えてみてはどうでしょうか。
