帝は弘徽殿女御の生んだ一の宮を御覧になるにつけても、桐壺更衣の生んだ若宮のことを恋しく思い出すばかりで、親しい女房や乳母たちを亡き桐壺更衣の里へ使いにやって、その後の様子をお聞きになっていた。

N君：inquire は ask に似た動詞で inquire after+人「人の安否を尋ねる、人を見舞う」のような意味ですね。
