古文研究法90-2 竹取物語より：(かぐや姫の言葉続き)かの都の人はいと清(けう)らにて老いをせずなむ。さる所へまからむずるも、いみじくもはべらず。老い衰へ給へるさまを見奉らざらむこそ恋しからめ」と言ひて泣く。翁「胸痛き事なし給ひそ。うるはしき姿したる使(つかひ)にも障(さは)らじ」と妬(ねた)みをり。
月世界の人は大変美しくて年を取りません。そういう所へ今回私も参ることになっているのですが、それほど結構なことでもありません。(このままここに居ればおじいさん・おばあさんの面倒を見てあげられるのに) 月へ帰ってしまえば御二人が年を取って弱っていく姿を見たり面倒を見たりすることもできないのが悲しいからでございます」と言って泣く。おじいさんは「月へ帰るなんてそんな悲しい事を言って下さるな。立派な姿をしている月世界からの使いにも邪魔されないからね(私はお前を守るからね)」と恨み言を言った。
N君：年を取ることなく若くて美しいまま、というのは羨ましいですが、かぐや姫は「それほど良いことでもありません」と言っています。イヤイヤ良いことでしょう、と突っ込みを入れたくなる所です。「清ら」は clean という感じではなくてむしろ beautiful とか handsome のほうが近いです。「恋し」はここでは「悲しい」の意味になります。「使にも障らじ」は「月世界からの使者にも邪魔されないだろう」つまり「私(翁)はお前(かぐや姫)を守るからね」の意味でしょう。

S先生：だいたい良いですが第6文 It is the shame that ～「～は残念なことだ」の定冠詞がいけません。shame「恥」はもともと不可算名詞ですが「不名誉なこと、残念なこと」の時には可算名詞となって不定冠詞が付きます。It is a shame that ～ は決まり文句なのでこのまま覚えてもらいたい言い方です。もうちょっと強調して It is a great shame that ～ としてもよいですね。第10文の the evil tentacles of airian「エイリアンの邪悪な触手」にはビックリしましたが、かぐや姫を守ろうとするおじいさんですからこのくらいのことを思っていたとしても間違いではないでしょうね。理系のN君らしい発想で、私にはとても考え付きません。
