「おお、それは良い。どうも体調がよくないので、牛車をそのまま邸内に乗り入れられるような気安い所が良いな」と源氏は言う。なにもそんな紀伊守の邸などに行かずとも源氏にはお忍びで方違えに宿るような家はいくらでもあったのだが、せっかくこうして久しぶりに左大臣邸にやって来たのに、方角塞がりにかこつけてどこぞ別の女の家へ行ったと邪推されては葵の上や舅(左大臣)の手前顔が立たないと思い、あくまでも女房達のすすめで紀伊守邸へ行くことにした。

S先生：硬さが残るものの全体としてまずまずの出来でした。第4文の「ちょっと立ち寄る」は、drop in のあとに、on＋人 あるいは at＋場所 が来ます。よってここは several houses appropriate for dropping in at でOKです。第4文と第5文の文頭にそれぞれ注目してください。もしかしたらN君は意識していなかったかもしれませんが、It is true that ～ ときたら次は大体 But ～ です。「なるほど～ではあるが、その実～だ」という配置になっていて、これはもはや決まり文句に近い。長文を読んでいて It is true that ～ に出会ったらそれに続く but を探して下さい。英文の内容が頭にスルスルと入ってくるでしょう。このような呼応関係はいろいろあるので、たくさんの英文に当たって慣れておくことが大切です。第7文に出てきた arose [au]は他動詞で arouse-aroused-aroused と規則的に変化しますが、arise[ai]は自動詞で arise-arose[ou]-arisen と不規則に変化します。つまり他動詞の原形と自動詞の過去形が、同じスペルなのに、発音が微妙に異なる、という関係にあるのです。ややこしいので注意が必要です。
