A subordinate of mine suggested that it would be rude to refrain from replying in this case. Therefore I composed the first phrase and sent it to him : "You think I am going to see many kinds of flowers in an autumn garden because you are capricious enough to love this and that woman. Too bad for you. I am going to the Koryu Temple, not going to see flowers." Enjoying the ironical sound of the poem, I passed through him.
One of my attendants said, "It might be rude of you not to reply to him in such a case as this." Therefore I wrote the first phrase to answer him : "You, a capricious man, might think that I am going to see various flowers in the autumn field. I am sorry, but I am going to the Koryu Temple for religious meditation." Having my attendant hand him the ironical poem, I passed him in triumph.
