N君：「かへりて～語りければ」には敬語がないので主語は尾行者、「聞き奉る」には謙譲語がありますが女房達から見て義孝様は高位なので主語は女房達、というこでよいと思いました。

S先生：第1文冒頭の tail は刑事が尾行しているような感じを受けて少し違和感がありますが許容範囲内でしょう。同じく第1文の the earnest behavior of Lord Yoshitaka は硬いです。how piously Lord Yoshitaka was behaving くらいに変えましょう。
When the follower came back and told the ladies-in-waiting how devoutly Lord Yoshitaka was praying, all of them listened to him deeply impressed.
